Postpartum Care Trusted by our grandmothers

Postpartum Care Trusted by our grandmothers

The most prominent aspect of mommying along was taught by our grandmothers. There is a reason our grandmothers had a whole food routine for new mothers. It was never about eating fancy or complicated food. It was about warm, nourishing, simple and easy to digest meals that helped a mother recover while she was learning to care for a tiny human.

Across Indian homes, postpartum food traditionally included simple dals, rice, ghee, vegetables, spices, millets, nuts, seeds and specially prepared laddus. The exact foods differed from one region to another, but the idea was similar feed the mother well, keep meals comforting, and give her time to recover.

Even today many homes believe in preparing these at home in a clean hygenic environment. At Ajjis Homemade we have been following what our grandmother have been telling us. Traditionally prepared, customised to requirements and freshly prepared, that the motto we follow.

Gond/ Dink (Edible Gum) laddus, sesame-based preparations, methi, dry fruits, ajwain, ginger and pepper are some ingredients that appear in traditional postpartum kitchens. These foods are valued for their healing properties in natural ways. However one must understand that these foods are supplements and not just the only foods for the new mothers, as every mother's needs are different.

The checklist for new mom is not for her to follow all by herself but rather taken care of by people around her. If you wish to add value to your health through traditional postpartum care, do reach out to us through comment or contact us.
