I Was Struggling to Feed My Baby… This Changed Everything
Share
I had delivered my child through an emergency C-Section, everything seemed under control untill the real postpartum struggle began. I wasn't able to nurse my baby. Some said the baby doesn't latch properly, some said the holding position isn't right. The first week went in struggling with my stiches pain and the stress of not being able to feed the baby.
Then my grandmother arrived from her native. She was quite old but was extremely entusiastic to see her granddaughter and greatgrand child. My tears werent hidden from her and she heard me out. She first laughed on the situation and said just one thing please keep the stress at bay. She made a list and asked my father to get the items and assured me to relax first.
She made a rule that no one will keep playing pass in the passer with the baby, and let the baby be with the mother all the time. She said baby will connect with you because you are the only source of comfort and food for him.
Then she prepared a delicious yet comforting podi with some leaves. She even made lactation laddus with some nuts and seeds. Having that podi and laddus became my dialy ritual. With my grandmother beside me it was a big support system. Soon I started feeling that the baby is latching well, my breast milk supply has increased relatively.
I asked my grandmother how did she knew so much about the food, and she spilled the beans saying earlier those days food was not just to fill stomach but to heal and meant for different purpose. People knew the science behind the food. Now with modernisation we are forgetting tose roots. But eventhough times have changed we all are mommying along in the same manner.
