Share
In many traditional households, clove water (Lavangada Kashaya) is one of the very first things offered to a new mother after delivery, as soon as possible. This practice has been followed for generations as part of post-partum care.
Cloves are well known for their anti-inflammatory properties. Traditionally, they are believed to help:
- Reduce internal inflammation after childbirth
- Ease gas and bloating
- Relieve mild abdominal cramps
Because digestion is delicate after delivery, clove water is given gently and in small sips.
Here is How You Prepare The Kashaya (Clove Water)
- Take 5–6 cloves
- Add them to one large glass of water
- Boil the water until it reduces to one-fourth
- Strain and serve hot
The new mother is advised to sip it slowly, not drink it all at once.
When and How Long to Consume
Traditionally given in the morning, before any other food and continued for 7 days from the date of delivery. This can also be taken later if the mother experiences: Bloating, Mild stomach cramps, Digestive discomfort
